I have been an animal lover my whole life. When I was five, I cared for an orphan lamb which followed me everywhere and all my friends and family sang “Sherrie had a little lamb” to the tune of “Mary had a little lamb”. I was soon helping my grandfather with his hobbyist German Shepherd kennel and when I was 8, he gave me my very own puppy. That dog became my best friend and companion as I grew up. We participated in 4H and had a bond that is difficult to describe. We could roam the neighborhood and I felt perfectly safe and content with him. Losing him was like losing my best friend.
After I married and moved to the suburbs of Columbus, my husband and I wanted a dog. Thinking we should get a more suburban breed, we decided to adopt a black lab mix. What a mistake and misconception that was! That dog was such a disappointment when compared to a German Shepherd Dog! Despite obedience classes and much time and effort that dog destroyed our home and caused problems with the neighbors. We vowed we would never own a dog again. A few years later our neighbor became a K9 police officer and brought his partner home. How wonderful it was to see such a beautiful obedient animal. Once again we got puppy fever and this time began our search for the perfect dog, the German Shepherd Dog. Owning and training this pup was a joy and we were hooked. He was a fantastic dog in any setting and our friends and neighbors loved him.
We have since left the suburb to our dream home in the country which gives us and our dogs plenty of space for work and play. We continue to learn and improve our bloodlines yet plan to remain small enough to provide each dog with loving individual time and attention. I remain active in obedience, pet therapy and dog sports and also teach puppy obedience classes. I am an evaluator for AKC’s Canine Good Citizen and also Therapy Dog Inc. I belong to the German Shepherd Dog Club of America and am a board member with the Mastiff Club of Northern Ohio. I have earned the AKC Breeder of Merit award and have signed the Breeders Code of Ethics. My nursing background has aided me in keeping our dogs in perfect health and we also offer boarding services for puppies we have sold.
We offer basic obedience consultations as well as puppy classes. We do have a SAR group that is open to beginners. Also, I am looking for area volunteers for our pet therapy group. Please contact me for more information if you have an interest in either activity.
